Belvédère du Pey de la Blet, Scenic viewpoint in La Barre-de-Monts, France.
Belvédère du Pey de la Blet is a scenic viewpoint in La Barre-de-Monts offering views of the Atlantic Ocean, salt marshes, and surrounding forest. The structure rises about 37 meters above sea level and provides a wide perspective over the coastal landscape.
The site takes its name from a shepherdess called Blet who grazed sheep there, while the dune was once locally called 'pey'. This naming traces back the human use of the land to its geographic roots.
The viewpoint sits within a large state forest planted with maritime pines in the mid-1800s to protect the coastline. This wooded setting shapes the visitor's experience of the place.
The climb involves about 184 steps to the summit, with an intermediate platform providing a rest area. This platform also offers good viewing opportunities for visitors who prefer not to continue to the top.
The structure was completely rebuilt in 2023 using oak, douglas fir, and chestnut wood, making it a relatively modern construction. On clear days, you can see the Noirmoutier Bridge and Yeu Island from the top.
