Parc de Villeroy
Parc de Villeroy is a large green space in Mennecy featuring extensive tree-lined paths, open fields, and wooded areas. The site spans roughly 130 hectares and is maintained largely in its natural state with minimal structures and a diverse mix of tree species including plane trees, lindens, and giant sequoias.
The park dates back to the 1500s as part of a larger estate with a Renaissance castle, moats, and towers. Mennecy acquired the grounds in 1972 and transformed it into public green space while preserving most of its natural character.
The park serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors connect with nature through walking and quiet outdoor moments. The distinctive tree-lined avenues reflect how the space has been shaped for public enjoyment across generations.
The terrain is fairly flat and accessible for people of all ages, making it popular for family outings. Parking areas and pedestrian paths connect easily to the town of Mennecy and throughout the grounds.
A 800-meter avenue lined with 134 giant sequoias dominates the park and has been recognized as a remarkable tree of France since 2001. These trees are roughly 150 years old and often reach over 100 feet (30 meters) in height, creating a rare natural spectacle in Europe.
