Ecomusée du Montmorillonnais

The Ecomusée du Montmorillonnais occupies an old farmhouse with ten exhibition rooms documenting the life and resources of the Montmorillon area. The rooms display the material culture of this rural region through tools, equipment, and everyday objects.

The museum was established in 2008 after the buildings underwent careful restoration between 1995 and 2008. The restoration transformed the old farmhouse into a place preserving the rural history of the region.

The museum displays agricultural practices and craftsmanship techniques that have been passed down through generations in this region. Visitors can see how people once lived and worked as they move through the rooms.

Visits are possible from April to October, so plan your trip during these months. The site is easily accessible and offers a comfortable experience for visitors of all ages.

A working forge since 2018 lets visitors watch traditional metalworking techniques in action. Craftspeople demonstrate how objects were shaped by hand, a skill that is rare today.
