The Gundam Base Tokyo, Gunpla-focused center
The Gundam Base Tokyo is a large store on the seventh floor of DiverCity shopping center in Aomi, dedicated entirely to robot model kits from the Gundam anime series. The facility spans about 2,000 square meters and is organized into four main zones: a shop area with over 2,000 different models on display, a factory zone showing how kits are made, a builders' area where visitors can assemble models on-site, and an event space for competitions and rotating exhibitions.
Gundam originates from a groundbreaking anime series that has captivated generations of fans since the 1970s and shaped Japanese pop culture worldwide. This store was established by Bandai Spirits, the company that manufactures the model kits, to serve as a flagship showcase for the evolution of these robot characters across multiple decades.
The name comes from the famous Gundam anime series, which has shaped Japanese pop culture for decades. Visitors experience a living community of collectors and fans who share their passion for these robot characters and display their custom-built models throughout the space.
The store is located just a three-minute walk from Tokyo Teleport station and a five-minute walk from Daiba station on the Yurikamome line, making it easily accessible by public transport. Entry is free, though busy periods may require a numbered ticket system to manage visitor flow.
A 19-meter-tall statue of the Unicorn Gundam stands outside the building and transforms in real time, lighting up with colorful displays as night falls. This striking sculpture changes its appearance several times daily and has become a recognizable landmark visible from across the area.
