Daikanransha, Ferris wheel in Aomi district, Tokyo, Japan
The Daikanransha is a 115-meter tall ferris wheel in Tokyo with 64 gondolas, four of which have transparent floors. These see-through cabins let riders look straight down at Tokyo Bay and the city below.
This wheel opened in 1999 as the world's largest at the time, holding that record until the London Eye opened the following year. It became a defining feature of Tokyo Bay and remained active for over two decades.
The light displays shift with the Japanese seasons, showing spring, summer, autumn, and winter through changing colors visible from a distance.
You can reach the wheel via the Yurikamome line to Aomi Station or the Rinkai line to Tokyo Teleport Station, both a short walk away. Both stations make it easy to get to the location without needing other transport.
After closing in 2022, some of its gondolas were moved to ski resorts and theme parks in other parts of Japan. These cabins now operate in new locations, giving them a second purpose far from Tokyo Bay.
