King Abdullah Sports City

King Abdullah Sports City is a large sports complex in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, combining multiple training facilities, stadiums, and service buildings under a distinctive diamond-patterned canopy. The central stadium is wrapped by a folded outer skin that filters light and allows air circulation.

The complex became operational in early May 2014 and was formally opened to the public with an official ceremony a few days later. Since then, it has served as a venue for national and international football tournaments.

The complex brings together families, sports enthusiasts, and international visitors who gather here for football matches and major events. On match days, the stands fill with supporters whose chants echo through the open roof structure.

Visitors reach the grounds through several entry points that open depending on the event and ticket category. On hot days, the shaded walkways and passages provide relief when moving through the grounds.

The cooling system uses wind directions from the Red Sea to channel fresh air through the stands without relying on full air conditioning. This passive cooling reduces energy consumption considerably.
