Étang de la Brenne, Nature reserve in Saint-Michel-en-Brenne, France

The Brenne pond extends over 17 hectares, creating an aquatic ecosystem with reed beds and wet meadows that support a large population of migratory birds.

Benedictine monks established this pond in the 12th century for fish farming, contributing to the development of the characteristic hydraulic network in the Brenne region.

The pond's observation points enable photographers and naturalists to study the behavior of purple herons, black-necked grebes, and other species in their natural habitat.

The site features two observation points accessible from the Nature House parking lot, with opening hours that change according to the seasons.

The pond hosts a population of European pond turtles, a protected species that finds these still waters perfect for reproduction.
