Huéznar Cascades, Natural waterfall formation in Sierra Norte de Sevilla, Spain.
Huéznar Cascades is a waterfall system in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla where water flows over layered limestone deposits built up by mineral-rich streams. Dense gallery forests of willows, ashes, poplars and elms surround the falls, creating a green corridor that frames the water as it drops.
The site received designation as a Natural Monument in 2001, acknowledging its geological value. The limestone deposits developed over millennia through mineral precipitation and tectonic activity in the region.
The site serves as an important example of Andalusian natural heritage, fostering environmental education and ecological tourism while maintaining local traditions of nature appreciation and outdoor recreation.
The location sits about two kilometers downstream from San Nicolás del Puerto with marked hiking trails available for visitors. Access is controlled in some areas to protect water quality and the natural rock formations.
The mineral deposits grow continuously as water flows over them and can actually shift the falls' height over time. These accumulations form natural curtains and slide-like structures that keep reshaping the landscape through ongoing mineral buildup.
