La femme à la robe verte, Sculpture in Amiens, France
La Femme à la robe verte is a wooden sculpture by Stephan Balkenhol, standing in the Saint-Leu neighborhood of Amiens. It depicts a woman in a green dress and is part of a group of works that also includes L'Homme à la chemise rouge and L'Homme sur sa bouée.
Created in 1993, the sculpture was commissioned as part of a public art project in Amiens. It was removed for restoration in 2019 and reinstalled the same year after being treated by the artist.
The figure is one of three characters created by Balkenhol that have become familiar faces in Saint-Leu. Residents often refer to them by their clothing, and the woman in the green dress is a recognizable landmark in the neighborhood.
The sculpture is mounted on a wall in the Saint-Leu area, so you can see it while walking through the neighborhood. It is outdoors and accessible at any time, though the surrounding streets are narrow and busy, so watch for pedestrians and vehicles.
The sculpture is one of a pair with L'Homme à la chemise rouge, and the two are often seen as a couple. The artist himself restored the work, adding a resin coating to protect it from the weather.
