Fusée de Chabeuil, Rocket sculpture in Chabeuil, France.
The Chabeuil Rocket is a 10-meter tall steel sculpture installed on the western roundabout of the commune, featuring distinctive checkered patterns painted on 86 numbered metal plates that evoke the rockets from Tintin comic books.
Created in 2003 during the early Tintin enthusiast gatherings, this sculpture was initially placed at the town hall square before finding its permanent location on the roundabout in 2004 with approval from the Drôme departmental council.
This public artwork serves as a tribute to Hergé's creative legacy and represents the connection between popular culture and community art, organizing educational visits and workshops for local schools about comic book heritage and graphic culture.
Located at GPS coordinates 44.902841, 5.008343, the sculpture is easily accessible to the approximately 19,000 daily vehicles passing through the roundabout and underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2019 lasting two and a half months.
Maintained by the local association '26 avenue du Labrador' through private donations and community fundraising, the sculpture required 750 screws to secure its 86 metal plates during its meticulous restoration process performed entirely by local artisans.
