Vjetrenica

Vjetrenica features an extensive network of underground tunnels and chambers formed by water erosion over millennia, showcasing remarkable stalactites and stalagmites throughout its passages.

The cave contains cave drawings over 10,000 years old and fossilized remains of cave bears and leopards, providing evidence of prehistoric human and animal occupation.

Designated as a Monument of Nature in 1950, Vjetrenica holds deep connections to local folklore with legends of fairies dancing and singing in its chambers.

The cave operates daily from 09:00 to 18:00 with guided tours available, requiring visitors to wear waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear for safe exploration.

Recognized as the most biodiverse cave globally, it hosts over 200 species including 15 stenoendemics that exist nowhere else on Earth in similar environments.
