Gainfeld Waterfall

The Gainfeld Waterfall cascades approximately 50 meters down rocky cliffs along the Gainfeldbach stream, creating a powerful natural spectacle in the protected landscape near the historic ruins of Pongowe Castle.

The waterfall area has been historically connected to local water mills along the Mühlenweg, where mill owners utilized the water power of the Gainfeldbach for operating paper and grain mills throughout centuries of regional development.

Located near the medieval ruins of Pongowe Castle dating back to around 1200 AD, the waterfall site combines natural beauty with significant cultural heritage, representing the historical importance of water resources in Austrian mountain communities.

Visitors can reach the waterfall via a 10-minute walk from Bischofshofen city center along the Mühlenweg trail, with parking available near the ski jumping tower and clear signage directing hikers to the natural monument.
