The peak near this viewpoint served as a landmark for sailors and travelers crossing the mountain paths of Gran Canaria for centuries. In the late 1800s, the anthropologist René Verneau documented the summit, describing its volcanic rocks and raw terrain in detail.
The name translates from Spanish as "Peak of the Snows," a reference to old stone wells that were built on the summit to store winter snow. That tradition has faded, but the name stays as a quiet trace of how people once used this high ground.
The viewpoint is reachable by car along a winding, narrow road, so driving slowly is advisable. There are no cafes or shops on site, so bringing water and something to eat before arriving is a good idea.
On clear days, the summit of Mount Teide on Tenerife is visible from here, floating above the clouds on the horizon. A small stone semicircle near the parking area is aligned with the setting sun, acting as a simple outdoor compass for orientation.
