Górka Rogowska, Hill and planned scenic viewpoint in Łódź-Bałuty, Łódź, Poland
Górka Rogowska is a small hill in the Łódź-Bałuty district, in the northern part of Łódź, Poland. From its top, parts of the city including the center are visible, and a roughly 40-foot (12-meter) observation tower on three levels is planned for the site.
Górka Rogowska was formed during the construction of the Retkinia and Teofilów housing estates, when builders deposited rubble and construction waste on the site and then covered it over. This process shaped the hill as it stands today, which is why it was long known locally as the rubbish hill.
Górka Rogowska has a steady place in the daily life of the neighborhood as an informal meeting spot. Families, cyclists, and walkers come here regularly, especially at sunset, when the light over the city becomes visible from the top.
The path to the top is easy to follow and open to walkers and cyclists of all ages, including families with children. A visit in the late afternoon works well, as the light at that time makes the view over the city particularly clear.
The planned observation tower is set to be built using recycled materials, which is unusual for a project of this kind in Łódź. This turns a former waste deposit into a place associated with sustainability.
