Izrael Poznański's Mausoleum, Jewish monument in Łódź, Poland
Izrael Poznański's Mausoleum is a circular granite structure in Łódź featuring eight columns and four pillars that support a decorated dome with religious mosaics. The interior holds two sarcophagi and is distinguished by detailed artistic work that covers the dome.
The Berlin firm Cremer & Wolffenstein built this mausoleum between 1901 and 1903 for textile magnate Izrael Poznański and his wife Leonia. It was constructed during a period when Łódź was a major center of textile production and Jewish life.
The interior displays detailed mosaics representing Jewish religious symbols and themes that define the spiritual space. These artistic elements reflect the traditions and beliefs of the Jewish community who built this monument.
The mausoleum is located on a historic cemetery and is clearly marked for visitors to find. Plan to visit during daylight hours to see the interior mosaics and details properly.
The mosaic design was created by German art firm Johann Odorico using specialized craftsmanship techniques from the early 1900s. These intricate hand-applied methods are rarely preserved in such completeness elsewhere.
