Delijska fountain, drinking fountain in Belgrade, Serbia
The Delijska fountain is a small marble monument on Knez Mihailova Street in central Belgrade. With its simple design and central water spout, it functions as a drinking fountain for both visitors and residents passing by.
The first fountain was built in 1843 and stood for over 40 years before being demolished in 1889. After several reconstructions, the current version was built in 1987 as a copy of the classical style to preserve history on this busy street.
The name "Delijska" comes from the Turkish word for light cavalry that once served in this area. Today the fountain serves as a gathering point on busy Knez Mihailova Street, where locals and visitors pause to take photos or fill water bottles.
The fountain is free and accessible around the clock with no special requirements to use it. Visitors can stop by anytime to drink water or fill bottles while exploring the busy shopping street.
The fountain has been demolished and rebuilt multiple times, reflecting the city's resilience through different eras. These repeated reconstructions make it a symbol of how Belgrade preserves tradition while modernizing.
