ORP Sokół, Museum submarine in Gdynia, Poland.

The ORP Sokół is a decommissioned Kobben-class submarine measuring approximately 155 feet (47 meters) in length and 15 feet (4.6 meters) in width, now permanently displayed at the Naval Museum in Gdynia.

Originally built in Germany in 1966 as KNM Stord for Norway, the submarine was transferred to the Polish Navy in 2002 and served actively until its decommissioning in 2018.

The vessel serves as a memorial to Polish submariners who served during World War II and the Cold War, highlighting Poland's naval traditions and international maritime cooperation.

The submarine exhibit opened to the public on March 25, 2025, offering daily guided tours through its control rooms, torpedo compartments, and living quarters at the Gdynia Naval Museum.

Visitors can explore the authentic interior of a Cold War submarine that accumulated close to 26,000 nautical miles during its 16 years of service in the Polish Navy.

This ship that sailed under polar ice opens its doors

Hallways made of metal so narrow that you walk sideways, beds stacked in groups of three where sleeping seemed impossible, and control rooms where men made decisions in complete silence: enter these open-to-the-public submarines and see what life beneath the sea is like.
