Château Féodal d'Ollioules, Medieval castle ruin in Ollioules, France
The Château Féodal d'Ollioules is a medieval castle ruin on a small hill in the town of Ollioules, in southern France. The remaining walls and doorways sit on a strategic spot above the plain, with a wide view toward the south and the gorges to the north.
The castle was in use from the 11th century until around 1520, when it began to fall into ruin. It served as a control point over the surrounding region, positioned to monitor movement through the gorges and across the plain.
The site is on the Chemin de Sainte-Barbe in Ollioules and can be reached on foot from the town center. Explanatory panels around the ruins help visitors follow the layout without a guide.
Just below the ruins, a walled medieval garden has been reconstructed with aromatic and medicinal plants that were common in the Middle Ages. It gives a concrete sense of daily life that the stone walls alone cannot convey.
