Cascade du Meli, Waterfall near Vivario, France
Cascade du Meli is a waterfall in the heart of Corsica, near the hamlet of Canaglia close to Vivario, set along the Manganello river valley. The water drops into a natural pool surrounded by pine and oak trees that keep the site shaded for most of the day.
The path to Cascade du Meli has long been used by shepherds and farmers who crossed the Manganello valley on foot. Over time, walkers discovered the route, and the nearby sheepfold of Tolla became a known stop along the way.
The trail starts from the hamlet of Canaglia and is clearly marked with orange signs throughout, so it is easy to follow even without a map. Good walking shoes are recommended since the ground becomes uneven and rocky closer to the waterfall, and a towel is useful if you plan to swim in the river pools.
Just before reaching the waterfall, there is a small barrier across the path that visitors are expected to close behind them to prevent grazing animals from wandering off. A little further along the trail, the Bergerie de Tolla sheepfold is sometimes open for visitors to buy fresh sheep's cheese directly from the shepherds.
