MÁV 370
The MÁV 370 is a steam locomotive on display in Szeged that belonged to Hungary's railway fleet. Its dark, heavy steel body shows wear from years of service, while large wheels, connecting rods, and valves reveal the mechanical power that once drove it along the tracks.
Built before World War I, the locomotive served reliably on Hungary's railway network for decades. After World War II, steam engines of this class were gradually withdrawn from service as diesel and electric locomotives replaced them, leading to its eventual preservation.
The locomotive serves as a symbol of Hungary's railway past and is preserved with care by the local community. It connects visitors and residents to an era when steam engines shaped daily life and made long-distance travel possible.
The locomotive is placed in a dedicated display area where visitors can walk around and view it from different angles. Access is generally open and the space provides room for photography and close observation of its mechanical details.
The locomotive was designed with simple but functional engineering solutions that allowed it to run reliably even on poorly maintained secondary lines. This toughness made it ideal for regional routes and rural areas where more advanced models were rarely deployed.
