Zegrze Reservoir
Zegrze Reservoir is a large water body north of Warsaw fed by the Narew and Bug rivers, stretching roughly 41 kilometers with a width of 3 to 4 kilometers. Its shores host several towns, a public beach in Nieporent, a pier, and facilities for water activities including sailing, fishing, kayaking, and boat rentals.
The reservoir was built in the mid-20th century to control flooding and manage river flow in the region. The area was largely rural before its construction and later developed into a popular recreational destination for the expanding Warsaw metropolitan area.
The reservoir is a cherished weekend destination for Warsaw residents seeking outdoor relaxation and social gatherings with family and friends. Cafes and small restaurants dot the shoreline, where visitors sit outside to watch the water and escape city life.
The reservoir sits about 20 kilometers northeast of Warsaw and is easily accessible by car or public transport, with bus 735 running from Metro Marymont to Nieporent. Parking is available, and nearby towns offer cafes, restaurants, and accommodation options best booked in advance during warmer months.
A distinctive option is the early morning 'Zefir' ferry crossing from the Żeran Canal to Serock, a scenic boat trip that combines water transport with nature exploration. This journey offers a different perspective on the reservoir and surrounding landscape than typical land-based approaches.
