Wuyuanwan Wetland Park
Wuyuanwan Wetland Park is a large natural wetland area near the coast in Xiamen with wide open spaces, small lakes, and channels running throughout. Ducks swim in the water and cranes stand in the shallows while pathways wind through the landscape.
The park was created to protect the region's natural wetland ecosystem from urban development. It now serves as a vital habitat for migratory birds and demonstrates the environmental value these wetlands hold for the coastal area.
The wetland holds meaning for residents as a place to connect with the natural world during their daily routines. Visitors can watch locals feed water birds in the mornings and observe how the community values this green space as a retreat from urban life.
The park features well-maintained pathways that are easy to walk and viewing platforms where you can rest and watch wildlife. Bring binoculars if you want to see birds more clearly, and arrive early in the morning when the park is quietest and bird activity is highest.
Each spring, white egrets arrive in large numbers to breed in the tall trees throughout the park. This annual occurrence transforms the area into a bird sanctuary and offers visitors a rare glimpse of this natural breeding event.
