The restaurant was founded in 1964 by Benny Muscat and his wife-to-be Marija, with the goal of sharing Maltese flavors. Today it is run by Ben Muscat, Benny's son, who continues to preserve Maltese cooking traditions through generations of family management.

Ta' Marija is run by the Maltese Muscat family and celebrates local traditions through its decor, family photos, and folklore performances. The restaurant shows how music, dance, and traditional stories are experienced by both visitors and residents as part of daily cultural life.

The restaurant opens in early evening until around 10:30 PM and offers both a la carte menus and special tasting menus with local wines. A transport service can be arranged from hotels, and reservations are recommended, especially for folklore nights on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday.

The folklore dancers wear 18th-century costumes and invite guests to join them on the dance floor after performances to dance to modern songs together. Ben Muscat narrates the stories behind the dances in up to five languages, blending history with joyful celebration.
