Palazzo Parisio, Baroque palace in Naxxar, Malta.

Palazzo Parisio is a Baroque palace in Naxxar featuring detailed frescoes on its walls, marble staircases, gilded rooms, and hand-painted ceilings decorated with elaborate stone carvings and chandeliers. The property also includes extensive gardens that complement the formal interior spaces.

The property was originally built in 1733 as a hunting lodge and gained its current appearance between 1900 and 1907 when Marquis Scicluna commissioned architect Annibale Lupi to carry out extensive renovations. This transformation converted it from a rural retreat into a grand residential showcase.

The palace blends Sicilian Baroque traditions with modern design elements visible throughout its grand rooms. The ballroom displays eight busts of notable figures, reflecting the building's importance to local high society.

The palace is accessible on most days during daylight hours, allowing visitors to explore the rooms and gardens at their own pace. Comfortable footwear is recommended since the property features multiple levels and numerous staircases throughout.

The basement contains former wine cellars that served as wartime shelters during World War II and are now used as a restaurant space. These rooms still carry traces of their protective role during the conflict.

Remote places in Malta

Malta contains numerous historical sites and natural landscapes away from the main tourist areas. The islands hold prehistoric temple complexes such as Skorba and Ta' Ħaġrat near Mġarr, Roman remains including the Roman Villa at Żejtun and ancient bath sites, and Ghar Dalam, a cave with Ice Age fossil deposits. The geological diversity appears at locations like Il-Maqluba, a natural sinkhole crater, and the Blue Grotto near Żurrieq, while coastal fortifications such as Mistra Battery and the Red Tower document the island's defensive heritage. Religious sites mark the rural areas, including the Chapel of Santa Marija Tal-Virtu in Rabat and the chapels of Qrendi. The Buskett Gardens and San Anton Gardens provide green spaces with historical significance, while Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park protects coastal habitats. Archaeological complexes like Tas-Silġ show layers of Phoenician, Roman and Byzantine settlement. The Victoria Lines near Rabat, an 18th-century defensive wall, and Fort Binġemma demonstrate military architecture from different periods. Gozo adds locations such as Mgarr ix-Xini, a sheltered inlet, and Il-Qolla l-Bajda Battery.
