Hompesch Hunting Lodge

The Hompesch Hunting Lodge is a stone building in Naxxar featuring a main entrance, an arched doorway for horse stabling, and a first-floor window with a balcony. The structure displays typical elements of Maltese architecture from its period, with solid stone walls and practical design details.

Ferdinand von Hompesch zu Bolheim, the last Grand Master of the Order of St. John, commissioned this building in the 18th century. The lodge was built during a period when the Order still held significant authority over Malta.

This lodge reflects how Malta's nobility once spent their leisure time through hunting expeditions in the surrounding countryside. The building's traditional stone design remains a visual reminder of these historical practices and social customs.

The structure sits on a main road heading toward San Pawl tat-Targa, making it straightforward to locate and visit. A public garden lies directly in front, providing a pleasant spot to view and appreciate the building.

This building has retained its original 18th-century layout despite modern development spreading around it. Nearby stand the Gauci Tower and Captain's Tower, which together create a small cluster of historical structures from the same era.
