Cabaret Lido
The Cabaret Le Lido is an entertainment venue in Paris specializing in elaborate stage productions, located on the Champs-Elysees in the 8th arrondissement. The interior features multiple halls, including a large auditorium with over a thousand seats, equipped with modern technical facilities and a special elevator system that lowers guests into the performance space.
The site began in 1933 as a swimming beach called La Plage de Paris but soon closed, and in 1936 show producer Léon Volterra completely transformed it by replacing the pool with a large hall for dinner shows. After the war, brothers Joseph and Louis Clerico took over, renovated the space, and pioneered the dinner show concept that many other cabarets later adopted.
The name references Venice's famous beach, and this inspiration appears in the interior design through romantic and grand decorative elements throughout the space. Visitors notice these artistic details immediately upon entering the main hall.
Access is via the Champs-Elysees, and staff help visitors navigate and find their seats, making it straightforward to get oriented in the venue. It is wise to book tickets in advance since shows can sell out, particularly during busy seasons.
The Bluebell Girls, a famous dance troupe founded in 1932, have been closely associated with the venue since its inception, and their distinctive high leg lines became a signature of the cabaret. Since 1946, approximately ten thousand dancers have performed on stage, with new choreography, costumes, and lighting changing nightly to keep the show fresh.
