Damuls / Mellau
Damüls and Mellau are two mountain villages in Austria's Bregenz Forest with a connected ski area. The terrain spans from elevations above 1,400 meters (4,600 ft) down to valley level with modern lifts serving blue beginner slopes through black runs and off-piste powder areas.
The region was established as a mountain farming and forestry community long before winter tourism arrived. Local stories of mountain guides and alpinists who assisted travelers in harsh weather became part of the villages' identity and continue to shape their welcoming spirit.
The villages take their names from local mountain heritage dating back centuries. You will see residents wearing traditional clothing during festivals, and small markets showcase local customs that connect visitors to the region's way of life.
Winter months offer the deepest snow since this area ranks among the world's snowiest locations, making it ideal for reliable skiing conditions. Most visitors arrive by car or bus and should plan for snow tires in winter conditions.
Damüls holds one of the world's highest snowfall records and receives exceptional powder snow in winter that stays reliable deep into the season. Additionally, the Damüls circular tour offers a guided ski route with stops at attractions including a ski museum and viewpoints with stunning mountain vistas.
