Cable Car
The Cable Car at Port Station is an aerial tramway in Barcelona that runs from the waterfront up to Montjuic hill. The route passes over the port area and city streets, with transparent cabins offering views of docked ships, neighborhoods, and the distant coastline.
The cable car was built in 1926 by Carles Buigas in collaboration with Ramon Calzada and Josep M. Roda. It was created to connect the port area with Montjuic hill after the 1929 International Exposition, making travel easier for both visitors and workers.
The ride lasts about 7 minutes and is best enjoyed on clear days for optimal views of the city and sea. Tickets are available online or at the station, and it is helpful to check the operating hours in advance as they vary by season.
The route passes through a central tower called Torre de Jaume I, which offers a unique viewpoint of the harbor and city during the ascent. At the top station, Terraza Miramar provides a restaurant and terrace where visitors can relax after the ride and enjoy views over a meal.
