Thermes of the Constable

The Thermes du Connétable is a thermal bath facility in La Roche-Posay offering treatments with warm mineral-rich waters from natural underground sources. The building contains multiple rooms with soaking pools, water jets, and relaxation areas designed to help visitors address skin concerns and muscle discomfort.

Construction began in the 1920s and the facility opened in 1932 to meet growing demand for thermal healing treatments with local mineral water. The establishment adopted its current name in 1981 in honor of the medieval military leader Bertrand Du Guesclin, who is said to have been among the first to recognize the waters' beneficial qualities.

The thermal baths are a place where locals regularly tend to their wellness, maintaining a generations-old practice of caring for body and mind. This ongoing tradition of using warm mineral waters for health and relaxation remains woven into the daily rhythms of the community.

The facility opens early in the morning when it is quietest, and visitors can drop in or book ahead for a more structured experience. Coming outside of busy times and allowing time to move between different treatment areas at your own pace makes for a more relaxing visit.

A dedicated area for children was built in the 1950s, showing how the facility evolved to welcome families and introduce young visitors to the healing tradition. This reflects the facility's long commitment to making thermal wellness available to all ages.
