Schwarzseespitze - Cima Lago Nero
Cima Lago Nero is a mountain summit in the Ritten highland near Bolzano, reached by cable car from Pemmern and a hiking trail. The peak stands out with its dark rocky surface and offers wide views across the surrounding mountains, with marked paths and rest points along the way.
The Ritten area has long served shepherds and farmers who moved their herds to mountain pastures, creating trails and shelters over centuries. Cable cars were later added to make access easier for visitors exploring these traditional mountain lands.
Mountain huts like Unterhornhaus and others remain important gathering places where visitors rest and connect with the land. The area shows how traditional alpine farming still shapes daily life here, with herds grazing in summer and locals stopping to share meals outdoors.
The path is well-marked and suitable for most hikers, taking about two hours and rising from about 1530 meters to 2070 meters elevation. Bring sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing since conditions can change quickly in the mountains.
A notable feature is the Dolomitoscope, a viewpoint with large diagrams that label and explain the surrounding mountain peaks. Nearby stands the Round Table, a natural rock formation shaped like a large flat circle that draws visitors seeking something different.
