Pierre Richard Wines
Pierre Richard Wines is a winery set on a historic estate near Gruissan, covering about 50 hectares of rocky terrain, ponds, and scrubland. The property produces several wine lines, including Château Bel Evêque as a premium offering, along with Ma cuvée personnel and the popular Démon de l'Evêque series.
The estate was founded in 1986 when Pierre Richard discovered a parcel of land called Domaine de l'Evêque near the sea and chose to restore it. A 20-hectare vineyard was planted on the property, continuing a long history of farming in this region.
The estate's name references the episcopal heritage of the region and its deep wine-growing traditions. As you walk through the vineyard, you notice how the surrounding landscape and local plants have shaped the character of the wines produced here.
The winery is open year-round for visitors, with hours varying by season; mornings and afternoons in winter, extending into late afternoon in spring. The friendly staff speak multiple languages including German, English, and Spanish, and are happy to answer questions about the wines and the property.
The property sits on what was once an island, recently connected to the mainland through land development, giving it a coastal location with sea breezes and views toward the shore. This geographic setting creates a distinctive terroir that influences the aromas and character of the wines in ways not found elsewhere in the region.
