Yash Raj Studios
Yash Raj Studios is a film production facility in Mumbai spanning about 20 acres with filming areas, sound recording rooms, editing suites, and post-production spaces. The six-story complex houses three soundproof stages, a film mixing theater equipped with 4K projection, a recording studio designed for orchestras, and a dedicated visual effects wing called yFX.
The studio opened in 2005 and builds on the legacy of founder Yash Chopra, an influential filmmaker who shaped Hindi cinema for decades. His son Aditya Chopra later took leadership and modernized the facility by introducing new production methods, digital content, and expanded business operations beyond traditional film distribution.
The facility is named after its founder Yash Chopra and reflects the heart of Hindi cinema culture. Photographs of celebrated Bollywood actors line the corridors and walls, serving as a visual record of decades of filmmaking and connecting the place to the broader story of Indian popular cinema.
Direct access to the facility is restricted to authorized personnel, though virtual tour options allow interested people to explore the studios remotely. Advance planning is recommended, and visitors should check current access policies before attempting to visit, as the location maintains strict entry protocols.
The studio was designed by Martin Pilchner, an expert who previously worked on projects for renowned Hollywood directors like Steven Spielberg. This international expertise ensured the facility meets global standards for sound and image quality, making it the only fully soundproof and air-conditioned film studio in India.
