The stadium, established in 1988, gained national recognition when India secured a 4-1 victory against Puerto Rico during a FIFA international match in 2016.

Located near Azad Nagar metro station and Andheri railway station, the stadium requires electronic payments as cash transactions are not accepted inside.
The arena underwent renovations for the 2022-23 Indian Super League season with support from local politician Aditya Thackeray and actor Ranbir Kapoor.
