Via ferrata of the Saint-Pierre rock, climbing route in Valloire, France
The Via ferrata du Rocher Saint-Pierre is a climbing route near Valloire with two sections of varying difficulty on limestone rock. The first part extends roughly 450 meters with steep climbs and technical passages, while the second section features suspended catwalks and monkey bridges.
The climbing route was created in 1994 and has since become a popular destination for climbers. Following a rockslide in 2014, equipment was modernized and updated to ensure visitor safety.
The name "Rocher Saint-Pierre" references Saint Peter and a nearby chapel dedicated to him. Today, climbers and adventurers use this rock face to test their skills while experiencing nature from elevated vantage points.
Access is from the Borgée parking lot, about 200 meters away via a simple forest path. The site is best visited from May through October, with dry weather and sturdy footwear recommended.
The first section is considered one of France's most technically demanding climbing routes, featuring inverted ladders and overhanging passages that expose climbers to the void below. This makes it a challenging experience for experienced climbers seeking to test their limits.
