Port of Ashdod, Seaport in Ashdod, Israel
The Port of Ashdod is a seaport on the Mediterranean coast of Israel, located south of Tel Aviv near the mouth of the Lachish River. The port has multiple piers and deep water channels that allow large cargo ships to dock and load or unload goods.
The port opened in 1965 and played a key role in building Israel's capacity to move goods by sea. It has been expanded over the decades to accommodate larger ships and growing volumes of cargo.
The port is located along Derech Petach Tikva in Ashdod and is easy to reach via major roads and rail links. As it is primarily a working port, public access is limited, but some areas nearby offer views of the activity on the water.
The port occasionally handles aid supplies destined for the Gaza Strip, making it one of the few commercial seaports with a direct humanitarian function. This means that alongside standard cargo, the docks sometimes manage shipments with a very different purpose.
