Moulleau beach, Beach in southern Arcachon, France
Plage du Moulleau is a sandy beach on the southern edge of Arcachon, facing the Arcachon Basin toward Cap Ferret. The shoreline has fine sand and shallow water at low tide, with a promenade running close to the shore.
The Moulleau area developed as a seaside resort during the 19th century, when Arcachon became popular with visitors arriving from Bordeaux by rail. The nearby Promenade Robert Fleury takes its name from a local figure and dates from that same period of coastal development.
The Moulleau beach sits at the edge of a quiet residential neighborhood in Arcachon, where houses with traditional regional architecture line the streets nearby. In summer, families, children, and walkers all share the shoreline in a natural, unhurried way.
The beach is walkable from central Arcachon and has flat access paths that make it easy to reach for people with limited mobility. In summer, lifeguards are present on certain sections, but outside the main season the beach is largely unsupervised.
At low tide, the water pulls back far enough to reveal wide stretches of sand where shells and small sea creatures become visible. This difference between high and low tide is especially noticeable on the basin side of Arcachon compared to the open ocean beaches nearby.
