Pereire Beach, Beach in Arcachon, France
Plage Pereire is a sandy beach on the edge of Arcachon, facing the Cap Ferret peninsula across the Arcachon Bay. A pedestrian promenade runs along the shore, joined by a cycle path, grassy lawns, a skate park, showers, and a small bar.
The beach takes its name from Isaac Pereire, the railway financier who backed the development of Arcachon as a resort town in the 19th century. His investment shaped much of the area that grew around the bay.
Two beach clubs, Les Canetons and Les P'tits Loups, serve families and give the area a regular, neighborhood feel. Walking and cycling along the seafront promenade has become a daily habit for many locals, not just a summer activity.
Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months, which makes swimming safer for families. A free car park is nearby, but arriving by bike is also easy thanks to the cycle path that runs along the waterfront.
Although it is a public beach, visitors can rent beach huts, deckchairs, and sunshades on site, a feature more often associated with the coasts of northern Europe than southwest France. This makes a full day on the sand easy even without any gear.
