Carmel Garden, Park in central Aurillac, France
Jardin des Carmes is a park at the edge of central Aurillac, situated at the end of one of the main shopping streets that shares its name. The space has several trees including a large sequoia, a fountain, a traditional children's carousel, swings, climbing structures, and benches.
The garden takes its name from the Carmelites, a religious order that once occupied this part of Aurillac. Over time, the site became a public green space for the local community.
The name of the garden recalls the Carmelite order that was once present in this part of town. Today it works as a simple meeting point where people from Aurillac stop between errands, meet friends, or let children play near the fountain.
The park is easy to reach on foot from central Aurillac and is open at any time of day without any reservation. It works well as a short stop during a shopping trip or a walk through the town center area.
In the middle of the park stands a sequoia, a tree species from California that is rarely found in a small town park in this part of France. It was planted here many decades ago and now towers over the rest of the garden.
