Paul Doumer's birthplace, Historic site in Aurillac, France
The Maison natale de Paul Doumer is a modest residential building on Rue Paul Doumer in Aurillac, France, recognized as a historic site. A commemorative plaque on the facade is the only visible marker, as the building otherwise blends into the surrounding street.
Paul Doumer was born here on March 22, 1857, into a modest working-class family, and left Aurillac early to pursue his studies in Lozère and then Paris. He rose through every level of public office, becoming President of France in 1931, before being assassinated in 1932.
A plaque on the facade marks the birthplace of Paul Doumer, noting his origins as a worker's child and his later career in public life. The street where the house stands was renamed in his honor, which is still visible today.
The building is on a public street and can be seen from outside at any time without any entry requirement. The interior is not open to visitors, as it remains a private property.
The building's facade has fallen into poor condition, and part of the house was put up for sale, which puts its future as a memorial site at risk. The Fondation du Patrimoine has been working to restore it before the centenary of Paul Doumer's death in 2032.
