Georges du Breil Racecourse, Horse racing venue in Aurillac, France
The Hippodrome Georges du Breil is a horse racing venue in Aurillac, France, located between the city center and the airport along the avenue de Tronquières. It has a grass track for flat and trot races as well as a steeplechase course with 13 jumps, including two over a small river.
The venue was founded in 1820 by a government decree and is one of the oldest still active racecourses in France. Aurillac was then one of the main racing centers in the south of the country, and in 1824 its races received a top national status.
The name honors Georges du Breil, a director of the Haras du Pin who died in a bombing in 1944. On race days, families and horse enthusiasts from the area gather to watch the competitions together in a friendly setting.
The main entrance is on the avenue de Tronquières, where parking is also available nearby. Covered stands face the finish line, and refreshments can be found on site, making it easy to spend a full day at the races.
This racecourse is considered the second oldest still active in France, after the one in Tarbes. Races have been held here almost every year since 1820, with the only interruptions coming during the two World Wars.
