Skyview Tower, Tourist attraction and scenic viewpoint in Smithfield, Dublin, Ireland
The Skyview Tower is a former industrial chimney from 1895 in the Smithfield area of Dublin, now open as a scenic viewpoint. At the top, a glass platform lets visitors look out over the city in every direction.
The chimney was built in 1895 for the Jameson Whiskey Distillery and remained in use until the 1970s. After production ended, it was kept standing and later turned into a public viewpoint.
The tower sits on Smithfield Square, a spot once known for livestock markets and now lined with bars and cafes. From the top, visitors can clearly see how older and newer buildings sit side by side across this part of the city.
The climb to the top involves a narrow spiral staircase of around 259 steps, and there is no elevator. Anyone with limited mobility should keep this in mind before planning a visit.
The glass panels at the top are marked with labels pointing out what lies in each direction, so visitors can spot Glasnevin Cemetery to the north or the Phoenix Park to the west without needing a map. This makes it easy to connect what you see with what you already know about the city.
