Le Mont Revard, Mountain near Mouxy, Savoie, France
Le Mont Revard is a mountain in the French Alps, located near the town of Mouxy in Savoie. Its summit plateau sits at around 1,538 feet (1,538 m), and the highest point, the Tour de l'Angle Est, reaches about 1,563 feet (1,563 m).
The mountain became a popular destination when a rack railway was built to bring visitors up to the plateau with ease. Traces of the old railway line and its stations are still visible along the slopes today.
Le Mont Revard is known locally for the view it offers over Lac du Bourget, visible from the summit area. On clear days, the outline of Mont Blanc appears in the distance, which many visitors notice with surprise.
The summit can be reached from several starting points, including Mouxy, Aix-les-Bains, and Saint-Alban-Leysse, with some sections being steep and requiring good stamina. Restaurants and mountain huts near the top offer a place to rest and eat.
The approach from Mouxy via the Route des Mentens includes a stretch of about 1.5 miles (2.5 km) with gradients of up to 12.5 percent, making it one of the toughest ways up to the plateau. This route is known among cyclists but stays off the radar for most walkers.
