Labyrinthe végétal, Plant maze in Chartres, France
The Labyrinthe végétal is a plant maze set in a park in Chartres, France. The corridors are formed by hedges growing to around 10 feet (3 meters) high, creating a dense network of winding paths.
The Labyrinthe végétal was created in the early 2000s as a leisure space for families and groups near Chartres. Since then, the site has been reshaped each season with a new layout and theme.
Each year, the Labyrinthe végétal takes on a new theme, from constellations to bicycles to the Olympics. Returning visitors always find a different path and a different story waiting for them inside.
The maze is close to Chartres and clearly signposted, making it easy to reach by car. Dogs are welcome on a leash, and shaded seating areas on site let visitors rest between the paths.
At the end of the maze, visitors can find homemade fruit juice and ice cream from local makers waiting for them. These small treats turn the finish into a reward that many visitors remember as much as the maze itself.
