Port de Plaisance du Bassin de la Marine, Marina in central Dunkerque, France
The Port de Plaisance du Bassin de la Marine is a marina in the heart of Dunkerque, situated along the Quai de Goole next to the Mercure hotel. The main basin holds around 170 berths on floating pontoons, while a secondary section on the Quai de l'Amiral Ronarc'h adds 32 more berths, mostly for longer boats.
The Bassin de la Marine was originally built as a commercial dock to handle cargo in the port of Dunkerque. Over time it was repurposed for leisure boating and became part of the waterfront area that the city redeveloped along its inner harbor.
The marina sits in a former commercial dock that has shifted over time toward leisure boating. Along the quayside, boat owners tend to their vessels and chat with neighbors, giving the place a low-key, working waterfront feel.
Boats enter the basin through the Trystram lock, which connects the open water to the protected harbor. The city center is a short walk away, and a bike rental near the Mercure hotel on the Quai de Leith is a practical way to get around without a car.
The section along the Quai de l'Amiral Ronarc'h was set up to handle boats over 13 meters, which is unusual for a harbor basin sitting right in a city center. It sits beside the Parc de la Marine, so crews can step off their boat and directly onto a green waterfront park.
