Cova de Cap de Cavalleria, Cave on the northern coast of Menorca, Spain
The Grotte de Cap de Cavalleria is a small sea cave on the northern coast of Menorca, close to the Cavalleria lighthouse. Its walls are rough and worn, shaped by wind and water over a very long time.
The cave was formed by natural erosion and has long been part of the coastal landscape of northern Menorca. The nearby lighthouse was built in 1857 to help ships avoid the dangerous waters around this cape.
The cave sits near the lighthouse of Cap de Cavalleria and is part of a protected natural area. Visitors are asked to leave no trace, which reflects how locals treat this stretch of coastline with care.
The walk to the cave from near the lighthouse takes about twenty minutes on foot on a stone path. The ground near the cave is rocky and uneven, so sturdy footwear and some water are a good idea since there are no facilities on site.
Inside the cave, the air is noticeably cooler and damper than outside, which makes it a welcome break on a hot day. From the cave opening, the small island of Illa des Porros is visible just offshore, framed by the open sea.
