Cape Cavalleria Lighthouse

Faro de Caballería is a lighthouse located on the northern coast of Menorca, featuring a white tower marked by red horizontal stripes for navigation. The structure sits approximately 94 meters above sea level and is accessible by a dirt road from Es Mercadal.

The lighthouse was built in 1857 to address the hazardous conditions along Menorca's northern coast, which had seen numerous shipwrecks over previous centuries. Its construction marked a turning point in maritime safety for the region.

The lighthouse serves as a landmark for fishermen and sailors who have navigated these waters for generations. The structure itself reflects the island's maritime identity and its role in guiding local seafaring communities.

Access is available from late spring through autumn when the visitor center is open. It is advisable to bring water and wear sturdy shoes, as the road is unpaved and the area can be very windy and exposed.

The lamp emits two flashes every 10 seconds, a signal visible to ships far out at sea. The lighthouse was also the last place in the Balearics to use kerosene lamps for navigation before switching to modern systems.
