Es Mercadal is a municipality located in the central part of Menorca island, covering an area of 138.34 square kilometers and home to approximately 6,215 residents distributed across several small villages.
Founded in 1287 following the reconquest of Menorca by Alfonso III of Aragon, the town developed around a chapel initially dedicated to Saint Narcissus and later to Saint Martin in 1431.
The municipality celebrates various traditional festivals including the feast of Saint Martin in July and organizes local markets that showcase the island's deep-rooted gastronomic traditions and community customs.
Accessible from Mahón via the Me-1 road, Es Mercadal features a municipal library, local schools, and administrative services managed by a mayor and thirteen council members representing different political parties.
