Viewpoint of the Macarella path, Scenic viewpoint on Menorca, Spain
The Point de vue du chemin de la Macarella is a scenic viewpoint on the southern coast of Menorca, set above the bay of Macarella and open to the sea and white cliffs below. From this spot, both Macarella beach and the smaller cove of Macarelleta are visible at the same time, framed by rocky edges on either side.
The area around Macarella was long known only to local fishermen, who reportedly used high points along the coast to spot good fishing grounds out at sea. When coastal walking routes were developed and marked, spots like this one became easy to reach for anyone walking the trail.
The dry stone walls running along the path are a traditional feature of Menorca, built by hand to divide farmland and protect vegetation. They are still standing today and give the trail a feel that connects walking with the history of the land.
The viewpoint sits along the Camí de Cavalls trail, which is marked with signs showing an eye symbol, making it easy to follow from Cala Galdana. Sturdy footwear is a good idea since parts of the path cross rocks and sand, and shade is limited along the route.
There are several viewpoints along this stretch of trail, and one of them, sometimes called the fifth, does not appear on most maps and requires a short detour through low bushes to reach. Few visitors find it, but it offers a different angle on the coast that the more accessible spots do not give.
