Bakery and pastry shop, Bakery in the 20th arrondissement, Paris, France
Boulangerie et Pâtisserie is a bakery in the Maraîchers neighborhood of Paris's 20th arrondissement, at 44 Rue des Pyrénées. It sells fresh bread and pastries every day, from classic baguettes to sweet treats like éclairs and mille-feuille.
The owner, Tharshan Selvarajah, arrived in Paris from Sri Lanka in 2006 and first worked in a restaurant near Place de la Nation. A neighbor taught him the craft of bread-making, and from 2017 he began entering competitions, quickly making a name for himself.
This bakery on Rue des Pyrénées is known for its traditional baguette, which won the best baguette in Paris award in 2023. Since then, it has supplied fresh baguettes daily to the Élysée Palace.
The bakery sits on Rue des Pyrénées in the Maraîchers neighborhood and is within walking distance of several metro stations. On weekends and early mornings the line can be long, so arriving early is a good idea.
When Tharshan Selvarajah won the Paris baguette competition in 2018, it meant he had to start delivering to the Élysée Palace every morning at 6 a.m. The number of baguettes he brings each day depends on the president's schedule, ranging from 15 to 200 loaves.
