Michel Piccoli Path, Footpath and promenade in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, France
The Sentier Michel Piccoli is a narrow footpath in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, running along a former rail corridor of the Petite Ceinture. It can be entered from Rue de Coulmiers and Rue Didot, and it passes the remaining facade of the old Montrouge-Ceinture station.
The Petite Ceinture was a ring railway that circled Paris and was gradually taken out of service during the 20th century. This section in the 14th arrondissement was opened to the public in August 2019, while the land still belongs to the national railway company.
The Sentier Michel Piccoli runs along a section of the Petite Ceinture, the old ring railway that once circled Paris. Along the path, wild plants grow freely and are labeled with their scientific names, giving the walk an educational quality that many visitors do not expect.
The path opens at 8 in the morning on weekdays and at 9 on weekends and public holidays, with closing times that vary by season and follow sunset. The surface can be uneven in places, so comfortable walking shoes are a good idea.
Although the city of Paris manages the day-to-day upkeep of the path, the land itself still belongs to the national railway company, which handles major repairs. This unusual split in responsibility makes it a rare example of a jointly managed public green space in Paris.
